Not Meaningful in Context
The image below has alternative text that reads "ama-dablam-2064522_1280" which is the file name from the stock house it was downloaded from.
Why Is This a Violation?
Whereas the image does contain an alt text attribute, it does not "serve an equivalent purpose" per SC 1.1.1 of the WCAG 2.0.
How Do I Fix It?
Add an alternative text description that helps a user understand the image in context to the content. Himalayan mountain peak for example would suffice.
Decorative Image with Alternative Text
The image below has alternative text that reads "divider line" which is the file name from the stock house it was downloaded from.
Why Is This a Violation?
Per SC 1.1.1, we must set decorative content to be ignored by the screen reader if "If non-text content is pure decoration, is used only for visual formatting."
How Do I Fix It?
Set the alternative text attribute to null by emptying the quotes so it reads (alt="").
